Tel Bet Yeraḥ (NIG 25370–25440/73530–73630; OIG 20370–20440/23530–23630) lies on the southwestern shore of Lake Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee), the largest body of sweet water in the Levant, and their fortunes have always been intimately linked. The Kinneret basin, part of the Dead Sea Rift (Jordan Valley), is 30 km long, has a maximum width of 15 km, and averages about 200 m below sea level.
