he Archaeology of Fazzān reports seek to advance knowledge of human settlement and adaptation in the world’s largest desert, the Sahara (Cloudsley Thompson 1984; Laureano 1991, 1-43 for good general overviews on the Sahara). The archaeology of the Sahara is at best only partly appreciated (Allan 1981; Phillipson 1992; Shaw et al. 1993), with most attention hitherto focused on the prehistoric phases (Humbert 1989 is a rare attempt to follow the story to recent times).
