Description

More than any other major mound in Israel, the history of the archaeological study of Tel Bet Yeraḥ (Khirbet el-Kerak) in the Kinrot Valley is closely bound up—for better or worse—with the history of modern Jewish settlement. Unoccupied for centuries, the mound was the focus of an early twentieth century unrealized Zionist initiative for real-estate development. The earliest archaeological investigations of the mound were carried out in conjunction with the first road-building effort of the Jewish Labor Corps in 1920–1921.
